Ask your doctor about nonhormonal birth control options. This medication can also decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, patch, rings, implants, or shots.

Interactions

Modafinil undergoes hepatic metabolism to several metabolites, with approximately 80% of the drug being eliminated via the renal system. Modafinil is moderately protein bound, mainly to albumin. Severe renal and hepatic impairment results in increased steady-state drug concentrations.

It should be used with caution in patients with a history of mental health symptoms, including psychosis or mania. It may also interact with certain medications, including SSRI antidepressants and other sedatives. It should not be taken with other stimulants.

Hormonal birth control methods (birth control pills, shots, implants, rings, vaginal rings, and IUDs) may not work well while you are taking modafinil (Modawake 200 mg). Use an alternate form of birth control while you take this medicine and for one month afterward. 

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription, vitamins, and herbal supplements. This information is especially important if you take any other medicines for mental or physical illness. Also tell your doctor if you have any allergies, including to foods, dyes, or preservatives.

This includes heart, blood, liver, kidney, or lung problems. Also tell your doctor if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to this drug or any other drug or substance. Use a non-hormonal backup method of birth control while taking this medicine and for one month after stopping it.
